Wakefield Park 2015 Trail Work Day
ANNANDALE, VA — It’s that time! Potomac Velo Club’s (#PotomacVeloClub) first race in our Wednesdays at Wakefield 2015 MTB Race Series (#WAW2015) is only three (3) weeks away (June 24th), and we need your help!
On Saturday, June 6th, Potomac Velo Club and MORE will be assembling at Wakefield Park for a much needed trail work day. Beginning at 9am, all volunteers will meet the MORE Wakefield Liaison, Tom Howe, in the Audrey Moore RECenter parking lot (near the green recycle bins) for check-in and trail project assignments. The park is full of puddles, brambles, dead wood, flying things, please come prepared with boots, gloves, pants, water, and food. MORE will have an assortment of tools available for use, but you are welcome to bring your own to help get most of the pruning and trimming completed before 1pm.
Wakefield is one of the most mountain bike friendly parks in Northern Virginia, and as a result, one of the most used. This is why Wakefield needs our love on Saturday! If you cannot make it this day, please pass the word to other mountain bikers who might be able to come out. And if you can come out, please bring a friend. The more volunteers we can muster, the more love we can give Wakefield trails!
Meanwhile, the Potomac Velo Club is sweetening the deal for all volunteers! Starting this year, for every 2-hours you work(*), PVC will award you one (1) free Wednesdays at Wakefield race entry on a day of your choice. However, if you perform 6-hours of trail maintenance or more, PVC will award you one (1) free entry for the entire 2015 series (**)! That’s all 4-races for only 6-hours of work — an $80.00 value!
Hope to see you all at 9am on Saturday, June 6th!
(*) Hours can only be earned during established Trail Work Days. To receive credit for volunteer hours and race entry awards, you are required to report to the Wakefield Liaison (Tom Howe) and/or the Potomac Velo Club representative (TBD) prior to doing any work. We cannot give you a race entry if we never know you showed up! It is your responsibility to make sure your hours are recorded. Limit one full race entry per-person, per 2-hours of work.
(**) There will be a second trail maintenance day before June 24th to allow those who are working towards the 6-hours or more of work requirement to earn more hours. Limit one full series entry per person.
